ZOË LEWIS is a band in a body! She plays jazz, jump jive, latin grooves, swing, international folk, funk originals on anything from the piano to the spoons! Troubadour/vaudevillian/storyteller/singer-songwriter/piece of work!

ZOË started studying music (piano) in England at the age of seven in her little village on the south coast of England, Rottingdean. She began performing professionally playing the Hammond organ, piano and synthesizer for London Latin jazz ten-piece band AVANTI in 1986. The band toured the UK and cut a record. She went solo in 1988, performed piano / vocal jazz standards from the ’30s and ’40s in London pubs and later worked in South America and in the Caribbean.

In 1992 she began to perform in a variety of different acts in Provincetown on Cape Cod for the summer season. She became a local favourite and won Provincetown Paper’s “About Town Awards” for best piano player and best comedy duo. She’s toured all over the Unites States, has performed in England, Germany, Australia and aboard OLIVIA cruises. As well as continuing her solo career she is receiving much acclaim for her quartet ZOË LEWIS and her RUBBER BAND with Seattle bassist KATE WOLF, Quebec City percussionist SYLVIE RICHARD and ROXANNE LAYTON, on recorder. Performing upbeat and edgy tunes on a variety of weird instruments, telling traveling tales that’ll take you from England to New Orleans by way of Bangkok and Guatemala, they bend the notes and stretch your imagination!

This is NOT your father’s home repair book!

And it’s not your husband’s, your brother’s, your boyfriend’s, or the guy’s next door. Dare to Repair is a do-it-herself book for every woman who would rather be self-reliant than rely on a super or contractor.

No matter the depth of your pockets or the size of your home, a toilet will get clogged, a circuit breaker will trip, and a smoke detector will stop working. It’s up to you how you’ll deal with them — live in denial, pay the piper, or get real and do it yourself.

Dare to Repair demystifies these home repairs by providing information that other books leave out.

In Dare to Repair, you’ll learn how to:

Take the plunge — from fixing a leaky faucet to cleaning the gutters.

Lighten up — from removing a broken light bulb to installing a dimmer switch.

Keep your cool — from maintaining a refrigerator’s gasket to changing the rotation of a ceiling fan.

Get a handle on it — from replacing a doorknob to repairing a broken window.

Play it safe — from planning a fire escape route to installing a smoke detector.

Filled with detailed illustrations, Dare to Repair provides even the most repair-challenged woman with the ability to successfully fix things around the home. Once you start, you won’t want to stop.

10% Off Indie Bestsellers, All Day… Every Day
Wild Iris Books now stocks the Indie Bestseller Lists. The thing that’s so great about these bestsellers is that they are reported from independent book stores across the country. You can be sure the books that make this list are loved by people just like you – no powerhouse publishers pushing their agenda here. While it would be fantastic – Wild Iris cannot combine the 10% with other discounts or sales.

Annual Personal Shopping Day
Have a month filled with anniversaries and/or birthdays? Let us ease the pain by offering you a once a year chance to shop everything in the store at 15% off. That means you can take care of all your gift needs and save money at the same time. Discount not available on all consignment items. And – if you want to use your Personal Shopping Day to splurge on yourself – we won’t tell!

Chances to Win Our Monthly “Local Lottery” (Starting January 2012)
Once a month, Wild Iris Books will raffle off a $25 gift certificate for a local business in our area, helping you to support local while supporting your wallet. Every time you make an in-store purchase – we’ll hand you a raffle ticket – hopefully a lucky raffle ticket. You get free stuff and we get to highlight a local business – it couldn’t be more win-win.

Exclusive Email Coupons and Special Offers
Periodically, we’ll send out some member-only savings – giving you the perfect reason to treat yourself or someone else. And we must say, it’s a great incentive for you to come by and say hello!

Recycled Reads:
Purchase a book (in-store or on-line) from Wild Iris Books and once you’ve devoured it bring it back to the store with your original receipt. As long as the book is in good condition, we’ll give you a credit for 50% of the purchase price to use on future purchases. We mean it though; you have to bring in your original receipt.

If all those perks weren’t wonderful enough, being a member helps reconnect you with Wild Iris Books and helps us continue evolving.

Purchasing a membership with Wild Iris Books:

tells us you support our mission, value what we do and want to be a part of our community

helps to give us the “edge” against the big corporate chain stores

helps us to maintain a safe space for our community: a place where we can explore ourselves, heal, and develop our strength to go out in society and stand for what we believe in

helps us to grow and expand, creating a vibrant atmosphere that transforms lives

supports the local authors, musicians, artists, poets and artisans our store represents

supports the local economy and a way of doing business in society that is honest, ethical and sustainable

Yesterday was our last buying day as we have to pack our merchandise for shipping today. We are bringing great treasures home, including new tumbled stones, stone jewelry, quartz from various regions, fossils from England and Germany, new mineral specimens, and polished material from throughout the world.

As we traveled between the various shows, we were amazed by the beauty and magnificence of Nature and theUniverse. It seemed that everywhere we went in the last days of January, Amethyst was being highlighted. Below are a few photos which hardly do justice to the totality of our experience. Enjoy!
