Friday evening, March 27th 7:00p-10:00p

Joa & Carmen’s art will be on display until April 17th.ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Joa March is an Italian-American from New York and Carmen Rose is a Spanish-American from Ohio. They have been creating fun and functional works of art together in Gainesville, Florida, since 1992. They are mostly self-taught folk artists, working individually and collaborating, both are colorists and express joy artistically with vibrant colors in bold patterns. Each has a unique style that compliments the other almost rhythmically. They share a common goal to create beautiful art that enhances the lives of those that enjoy it.

They make “fun-iture,” which is what they term the fun and functional furniture art they create. It is made with found pieces of furniture,, embellished with acrylic paint and sometimes with ceramic tile, wood, canvas or upholstery. They also have a whimsical mirror series, mirrors surrounded by hand-built frames dramatically painted that puts the viewer in the center of the fun and a Sun Goddess series of  panels. Each piece is infused with a spark of humor and most pieces are accompanied by a clever title.

Occasionally, they display their work in the Downtown Gainesville Art Festival, and the Gainesville Spring Arts Festival, Their art is also seen at local galleries and rotating art shows on the walls of local restaurants. Permanently they exhibit in a local artist co-op: The Gainesville Artisan’s Guild Gallery. (www.gainesvilleartisansguild.com)
